Founder of Jin Shin Jyutsu for Your Animal Companions
Adele Leas is an internationally known teacher and proponent of JSJ for animals. Originally a practitioner of this Art for humans, Adele’s expertise lies in comprehending the balancing of body/mind/spirit in diverse species…and in seeing the universality of the application of the work no matter who one is sharing it with.
Adele is the author of Jin Shin Jyutsu for Your Animal Companion, now in its sixth printing. Adele has had animal clients and taught JSJ animal classes for more than twenty-six years throughout the US and Canada, South Africa, Brazil and in 7 European countries. She was delighted to be chosen as one of the speakers at the First International Jin Shin Jyutsu forum in Porto Alegre, Brazil in 2004.
In 1989 the “gift” of poor health brought JSJ into Adele’s life. She was facing some major health challenges stemming from a weak immune system and several severe accidents. Responding poorly to traditional medical procedures, she was becoming more and more sickly until being introduced to JSJ as a result of a gift certificate for a session. At the time Adele had never heard of Jin Shin Jyutsu. Adele learned some simple self help exercises after her first session and continues to use them daily. This practice gave her the much needed information that she could heal herself from a state of extreme disease and weakness.
That action started her on a life-long learning experience and set her free. Since then self-help JSJ became the vital tool to maintaining her own health. While unsure of exactly how to proceed, it seemed only natural to share it with her beloved companion, Amiti, a sickly aging Collie. He turned out to be a very patient and willing recipient who was clear about what felt right. The resulting increase in quality, and perhaps quantity, of life was profound.
Like so many whose lives have been transformed through this beautiful Art, Adele found herself studying and sharing Jin Shin Jyutsu with others. Upon settling in New Orleans, she established a full time human practice. It was because of her volunteer work with a number of animal rescue organizations and her own emergency work with abandoned and abused pets that she began sharing JSJ with more and more animals. The vast majority of animals who receive JSJ are domesticated – either peoples’ beloved pets or animals in rescue and shelter situations waiting for their new people to adopt them. From 2006 thru 2009, Adele worked and taught part time at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. Adele has been a staff member at Alaqua Animal Refuge in Freeport, Florida since 2012. Shelter animals almost always respond so profoundly to this non-verbal expression of compassion.
Much to Adele’s delight, she has been privileged to have the opportunity to share JSJ with a diverse number of animals in the wild and is always reminded of the universality of of the Art when wild animals choose to share a session. On two trips to South Africa, Adele has had the opportunity to work with semi-habituated elephants, as well as warthogs and an orphaned black rhino baby. She has been lucky enough to share intuitive communication with animals as diverse as giraffes and penguins. Working with such diverse animals has increased Adele’s ability to listen and body read, while showing her more about the deeper meaning of “Universal Life Energy.” Adele splits her time between New Orleans, Louisiana and Destin, Florida, as well as between her dogs, cat and horse, when not on the road teaching. Adele has studied intuitive communication more formally with Dr Cara Gubbins and Marta Williams.
